Description
Revived in 1817 in the wake of the Napoleonic wars, The Sovereign has acquired a reputation as the ‘chief coin of the world’. Struck in 22 carat gold and tightly specified to four decimal places, it is trusted and respected wherever it is presented. The 2016 – 2022 Sovereign features Benedetto Pistrucci’s depiction of St George and the dragon, a design that is synonymous with Royal Mint’s flagship coin.
The fifth and final head of Elizabeth II was introduced in 2016 to all Royal Mint coins. Designed by Jody Clark (one of the Royal Mint’s own design team), it was the first time in the Mint’s long history that a staff member had been chosen to design a Sovereign coin. Fifth protrait was minted from 2016 to 2022.
Coin comes in plastic flip or paper coin holder.
