Description

This new series of minted bullion bars not only celebrate each Lunar New Year, beginning with the 2024 Year of the Dragon, but also tell legendary stories related to each of the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac – starting with the Legend of the Azure Dragon. As guardian of the east, the Azure Dragon is a harbinger of the coming spring season, and is said to control rain, essential for bountiful harvests.

The Reverse side exhibits the revered Azure Dragon of the East, a symbol of power and nobility, with the Chinese character for “Dragon.”
The obverse design depicts each of the twelve animals of the lunar cycle as a large star encircling the new moon. Throughout the day, a two-hour window of potency is allotted to each animal, and the dragon, which places fifth clockwise, is at its most powerful between the hours of 7 and 9 a.m. Its zenith is marked with Chinese characters that translate as 8 a.m.
