Description

Presenting The Royal Tudor Beasts bullion coin collection, inspired by the ten majestic beasts that line the approach to Hampton Court Palace. Originally commissioned to commemorate the marriage of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, each stone sentinel stands as a testament to the ambitious Tudor dynasty.

Queen’s Panther

The Queen’s Panther on the Moat Bridge, located opposite the Tudor Dragon, is the last Queen’s Beast visitors see before entering the palace. In heraldry, panthers are often shown ‘incensed,’ with flames coming from their mouth and ears, representing their fragrant breath. According to legend, the panther’s breath attracted all animals except the dragon, making this pairing symbolic.

Henry VIII granted the panther to Jane Seymour, symbolizing the House of Tudor’s lineage through its connection to Henry VII. Following his father’s example, Henry VIII used the Queen’s Panther to affirm his wife’s legitimacy and that of their potential children. The Queen’s Panther holds a shield bearing the combined Coats of Arms, known as impaled Arms, of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour.

Coin Design

Following the Seymour Unicorn and the Tudor Dragon, the sixth bullion coin in this esteemed collection from The Royal Mint features the formidable Queen’s Panther. This ancient symbol, bestowed by the king upon his new wife to legitimize her position, bears the impaled Arms of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, underscoring their powerful union.

The reverse of the Queen’s Panther 2025 bullion coin features an intricate design by artist David Lawrence, enhanced with surface animation for additional security. The obverse showcases the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings.
