Description
Obverse
The obverse is akin to James Earle Fraser’s portrait of a Native American chieftain that appeared on the iconic 1913 Buffalo Nickel. It’s believed that this design unites the facial features of three Native American chiefs: Two Moons of the Cheyenne, Big Tree of the Kiowa, and Iron Tail of the Lakota Sioux. LIBERTY and the Asahi mint mark are also inscribed
Reverse
The reverse features a profile view of Black Diamond, the famous 1,550-pound American Bison that once lived at the Bronx Zoo in New York. The great buffalo, which gives the original coin its name, is depicted standing on a mound. ONE TROY OUNCE and .999 SILVER are also inscribed.
