Description
This 2014 $5 pure platinum coin is part of a new series from the Royal Canadian Mint that chronicles the life cycle of the fierce female cougar. Sightings of the cougar are rare as this secretive hunter passes through the landscape, making her the perfect subject to be captured on a coin. This coin has a diameter of 16mm, and is struck in 1/10th of an ounce of 99.99% pure platinum. It features a low mintage of 3,000 coins worldwide.
The striking illustration by Glen Loates depicts a close-up, three-quarter view that gives us an exceptionally detailed glimpse of the features of the elusive cougar. A Proof finish, which is the highest-quality standard from the Mint, brings every line of the fur and whiskers to life. The reverse also displays the words “CANADA”, the year “2014”, and the face value of “5 DOLLARS” around the rim.
Obverse: Queen Elizabeth II
