UK 22-carat gold 2022 ‘Memorial’ Double Sovereign from The Royal Mint. These new Sovereigns feature the brand new coin portrait of King Charles III by British sculptor Martin Jennings. It’s the first time that His Majesty’s definitive effigy has been used on these prestigious investment coins. Jennings’ design is paired with a one-off royal arms reverse, created by Jody Clark, the artist behind the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the acclaimed Queen’s Beasts series. Clark’s design is a new take on the arms of the United Kingdom, incorporating the English lion and the Scottish unicorn. Rich in fine detail, it’s best appreciated on the 28.40 millimetre surface of this Double Sovereign. These coins are twice the weight of standard ‘full’ Sovereign with a mass of 15.98 grams. Each of these 916.7 fine bullion coins has an actual gold weight of 0.4708 troy ounces or 14.65 grams.
